Initial Assessment Appointment
"Getting to know you" Session
The initial assessment appointment offers an opportunity for us to get to know each other better, for me to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges you may be facing. I am here to listen to your concerns and to learn about your goals for therapy, so we can work together towards achieving outcomes you desire.
Confidentiality is a top priority during each session. All discussions are kept private to ensure a safe environment, allowing you to communicate. Your privacy is respected at all times. I will explain how this works and any exceptions to confidentiality. You can find out more information on confidentiality from my Privacy Notice.
I will have a relaxing conversation with you covering topics such as your personal history, your current situations, your support network, coping mechanism, relevant health history and conditions, risk of harm, and your availability for therapy sessions. These information would help me gain more understanding on your therapy needs. There is nothing you need to prepare for this.
The assessment appointment typically runs for 1 hour. There are some paperwork for you to read and fill in at the start of the appointment. These forms are normally consist of:
-
Full name and Contact Details
-
Confidentiality Information and Consent
-
Brief information about your current difficulties and how you want therapy to help
If your appointment is online, you will receive these paperwork by email in advance and to be returned prior to the appointment.
At the end of the assessment appointment, you will have the opportunity to ask me questions you may have about the therapy. I will feedback to you on the information you provided, how my counselling services could help you and how we could work together to support you on your therapy journey. If you wish to commit to a course of therapy with me, we will sign a Therapy Contract together and will decide whether a short course (CBT) or longer term counselling (Simply Talk) is better suited depending on your goals and complexity.
In some circumstances, I might think that I am not the best suited therapist to help you based on my experiences, availability, or expertise. In that case, I will do my best to recommend alternative therapist to assist you.
